One specialty, one focused voice
The South Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists is the only organization in the state that advocates expressly for your specialty. Unlike many medical societies, the Society’s staff does not represent any other specialty or client, so the focus stays squarely on the issues affecting you, your partners, and your patients.
The Society is the South Carolina component of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and it represents its members in the ASA House of Delegates. Its goal is to ensure the future of anesthesiology by applying its resources to legislative, regulatory, and reimbursement advocacy.
Three lines of work
The Society's advocacy runs along three fronts, each aimed at protecting physician-led care and the patients who depend on it.
At the General Assembly
We advance and track legislation that keeps physician-led anesthesia care the standard in South Carolina, and we defend patient safety in state law.
In the agencies
Laws are put into practice by regulators such as Labor, Licensing and Regulation and the Department of Health. We engage the agencies whose rules shape how anesthesia is delivered.
With the payers
We work with government and commercial payers, including Medicaid, the State Health Plan, and Workers' Compensation, to secure fair reimbursement for the specialty.
How to take part
Membership is the first step. It lets you participate with your dues, your time, your expertise, and your voice as a patient-safety advocate.
